Because of the web site name, we have lots of hits from train
buffs. Well, this is a page for you.
In the fall of 1997 we had the opportunity to ride on the Conway Scenic Railway in Conway,N.H. The trip we
took was the 5 hour "Notch Train" from Conway to Fabyan,N.H. via Crawford Notch.
We rode at the time of peak foliage and it was very beautiful. What follows is the
pictures of that trip.

This is the top of
Crawford notch at the train station. This shows the engine and cars of our train.
Notice the beautiful fall colors on the mountain sides. |

This is a view of the famous Mt.
Washington Hotel with it's name sake in the background. |
This is a view of the
notch looking south near the headwall. The roundness of the valley was caused by the
glaciers that made their way south. |

This is Mt. Willard at the north end of
the notch. It is named after a family that was killed in a landslide during the early days
of travel through the notch.
The dark line through the center of the picture is the rail line that cuts across the face
of the mountain. The picture above was taken at that part of the trip. |
