Euro Trips 2001
From December 2000 to October 2001, I had an opportunity
to travel through four countries in Europe. The four countries were France,
Italy, Switzerland and England. The first couple of trips I had a 35mm camera. The last two I had the use of a Sony Digital Mavica.

The trip I took in December 2000 was for 6 days to
Mulhouse, France. I was there 2 weeks before
Christmas. There was a Christmas fair going on at the cathedral in the
center of town. I more or less had to go through it to get to McDonalds. The
church square was filled with rows of small temporary shops selling all
sorts of goodies, toys and gifts.

In January 2001, I went to Mozzate, Italy for one week.
This town is located in northern Italy in the Como region. I
had one day off and went to Milan, Italy via train.
I spent 7 hours at Museo Nazionale
Della Scienza E Della Tecnica. It is a large science & technology
museum. They have a large exhibit on Leonardo Da Vinci and Marconi.

Early June to mid July I was in the City of Arona, Italy.
It is a large city on Lago (lake) Maggiore, just south of the Swiss and Italian
Alps. I had a small apartment that did not have a finished kitchen.
Breakfast was included with the room. There were 7 apartments that were
rented by different divisions of the the company. There were only 2 of us
from the US division working on the project at any one time. Most of the
time my neighbors were from Sweden or Finland.
During the weekends I had a chance to make two trips to The
Matterhorn in Switzerland. First time there was bad weather. Second time
was very clear.
I also had a chance to go to Mt. Blanco (Blanc) on
The Italian - French border. I did the trip from Entréves, Italy to
Chamonix, France and back by six cable cars.
I did not get to go through the Mt. Blanc tunnel as it
was still closed due to the fire that occurred in 2000.

The last trip in 2001 was to Gien, France. I was there
from mid September to mid October. It is a small city in the middle of
France about 130 Km south of Paris. It is located on
the Loire River. The city of Orleans is located about 45 Km to the north.
Orleans has the closest McDonalds.
The town of Briare is about 8 Km to the south.
Briare has the longest canal bridge in Europe. It
is over 100 years old. The stone piers for the bridge were installed by
Gustaf Eiffel. I still wonder why he did not do the cast iron for the
bridge.
I had a chance to spend two weekends in Paris and
tour the sights.
The last weekend before flying home I took 2 - one day tours. The first was
to the landing beaches in Normandy and the second
was to London via high speed train.
The next day I returned to a very different United States.
Please note :Site is under reconstruction and you will see
this on many pages.

Thanks.
